Like a grey night
owl, I turn my bright head,
Four legs I do
have, yet I cannot tread
I am loved by day
but I prefer the night
As every hour I wear
a coat of shimmering light
I’m your grand
old lady and I float on the Seine
My passengers are
winged monsters, women and men
Sun through my
round portholes will show
Ancient stories
made of a broken rainbow
Folders I pass
and papers I stamp
I say yes, no and
maybe to a park or street lamp
In this grand old
building important decisions I make
As I watch others
play on a frozen lake
As the river of
time flows gently past
I pick up some
pieces so they will last
A rock, a head, a
smile, maybe a mask
All kept in my safe
pentahedron of glass
I’m like a stone
bridge in the heart of a star
I remember harsh
battles both near and far
I hope that this
memory will help to increase
The desire for all to
always have peace
Near the park,
there’s a big red machine
It doesn’t need
fuel, but children it seems
Beeping, clicking
again and again
Children go home
with a big full brain
The whole grade 5 enjoying the sun
